Weeks 6 & 7

Sunday, February 1, 2009

Hi everyone!
Sorry we missed last week. We are starting to get busy and Ryan is going through a phase where he does not like to be put down, thus typing is hard. Since we wrote last Ryan has changed so much. Here are the highlights:

- He's holding his head up all the time and tracking things with his eyes. He'll even turn his head to look when he hears my voice from across the room.

- As evident in the photo below (I had to add the picture since no one believes me) but Ryan is holding his own pacifier in place at times. It's very funny. He'll search it out with his hands and push it into place.

- He witnessed the inauguration of Obama while visiting DDM where he not only got to be a part of history, but also meet all my co-workers for the first time. It was his first outing besides doctors and hospitals and he did great. I even made it to the doctor's office for my appintment and he did not cry once!

- Ryan has also been to a few parties including Max's football team's Spagetti Dinner, family dinners, and a friends party!

- Max and I had a date night last Sunday. We headed out to dinner and my parents watch Ryan. It was so weird to be int heo world without Ryan attached to us, but we are committed to making time for just us to keep things on an even keel.

- He slept 6 hours the other night! Thankfully this was the night before I worked...I attended a client meeting out of town and left him for 7 hours with my mom. He did great. Some days he's stellar: happy, sleeping well, fun. The good news is that for every 1 day of fussy behavior, we have 2 days of bliss.

Other than that, life is getting more settled. I have 5 more weeks of maternity leave left and I can hardly believe it. It's hard to picture going back to work and leaving him, but he'll be cared for by our friend Mindy and I am only going back part time, so it's really the best of both worlds.

A final note since some of you have inquired. Max's Grandmother passed away Monday morning. She was 95 years old and lived a really interesting life having immigrated here from England. We will miss her dearly as our visits with her were always a highlight of our trips back to Ithaca. She played a major role in Max's upbringing, one for which we are grateful.

We hope you each have a great week and that your favorite team wins the Superbowl tonight. We are headed to a party at the home of one of the football coaches. Can't wait.
