The weather is hot and humid. 103º the other day. I could complain, but we have air. It's hard to when huge sections of the US are without power. Instead I'm reveling in having a 3.5 year old who is so excited to be a big brother that it brings me to tears daily. I'd say the tears are hormonal, but given that Max also wells up at Ryan's generosity, I think it's just our boy. Two days ago it was him waking me up off the couch to look at his newest train track. When I looked up, he was offering me his hand to pull me up from the couch. Last week he called down from his new big boy room in tears and soon appeared beside me (on the couch again), lifted my shirt and whispered so sweetly into my stomach "Goodnight Baby. I love you." He was asleep moments later once he got to say goodnight to "his" baby. We're at the point that he's asking multiple times a day when he or she will be here. When "God shows us it's time" isn't doing the trick anymore so we're hoping it's soon.
At work, things have also naturally evolved to a place I could not imagine two months ago. My team landed a huge win for our agency and the opportunity is a once in a career type of thing. The only thing "in the way" has my huge stomach. Picture me literally, standing in front of one of the president of a fortune 500 on the 40th floor of the Hancock tower overlooking Lake Michigan, to people who write books on what I was presenting on and I am wedged into heels, a suit coat and a "slimming" maternity dress.... Baby K2 picks then to make my stomach visually start to role. The geometric pattern did little to hide it. And all these clients can think about is how I am bailing shortly on the client team I lead. Needless to say, after experiences like these and comments from clients, I had been struggling with anxiety over leaving for 3 months. But somehow in the last few weeks, everything has just fell into place. My team is comprised of the most amazing people who get me, my values and how important this time is to my family. They are truly stepping up and offer me so much encouragement. I am again reminded of why ddm is GREAT. And I constantly try and give myself perspective that when this child is 10, the words "healthcare reform" will mean little to him/her (I hope).
So with this newbies arrival is the promise of more consistent posts so that all our family and friends around the country can love on her/him as much as we will be. Also, we're all set up for Skype and welcome the chance to connect "in person" as much as anyone will connect with us. In the meantime, I offer you the best of Ryan over the last few months.
Much love,
Courtney, Max, Ryan + Baby K2
Ryan and his favorite, Abby, right before her senior prom at Meijer Gardens. Abby is a NV student, but also someone I mentor and Ryan's babysitter. She's headed to Hope in the fall.
Ryan showing off his new transportation themed big boy room. He's done great with the transition and is totally cool with giving the nursery to the baby.
Riding the Merry-go-Round at the mall.
Gangsters.
I got to chaperon Ryan's pre-school field trip to the zoo when Max got the shingles. He had great time, even though he's at the zoo all the time!
Nami and Ryan outside of Ryan's school just before his big field trip.
Tackling daddy.
Enjoying a s'more at our Memorial Day camp out in the backyard. He even helped make the fire.
Reading after his spill on the driveway out front. And showing off his new big boy haircut.
Start of Summer Celebration here in Rockford. Ryan and the boys posing with the firetrucks after the parade.
And the best part of Start of Summer Celebration (besides the Carnival rides practically in our backyard!) is splashing in the water leftover from waterball battles.
Hot summer day in the front yard.
Playing with our neighbors Hayden and Gavin in the pool.
Cashed out.
Lake Michigan last weekend was a blast.
Fourth of July with Ace, Rhonda and Mason at their pool.
Waiting patiently for the Ada fireworks. In 98º heat.
