Celebrating Grandma Mumme

Thursday, June 18, 2015

Early in May we were able to spend a meaningful weekend celebrating the life of Max's Grandma Mumme, who passed back in April. The service was amazing and so was the time with family.

Truthfully, when we began setting up chairs, I doubted that we were going to fill them all. Boy was I wrong. 100+ people and it was standing room only to come and pay tribute to Grandma Mumme. We laughed and cried, people shared stories and spoke of her kindness, humor and notorious dancing skills.

It was also an opportunity to see the house that Max spent part of his childhood living in while his dad and Patty restored it to it's former glory (though it could use their lovin once again.) Walking around Lockwood and hearing the tales of both Max's childhood and Grandma Mumme's legacy was a great reminder to harness the day and cherish our loved ones.

And speaking of loved ones, as sad as the occasion was, getting to love on our little nephew was a bright spot that helped us all get through a day of mixed emotions. Though we don't live in Ithaca, I can't stress how much we are embraced when we're home. It's like a life suspended as we come and go from Michigan. We're grateful to have had the opportunity to be there to support everyone and document the day.

A special thanks to my parents that made the trip possible. It was a whirlwind 48 hours that wasn't made for kids, so Ry and Elise got to spend some quality time with Nami and Papa!
