This post is going to help everyone understand how it can feel like you lived an entire week in just a single day when staying on Cayuga lake. You can track the climate change by shadow, shine, sweatshirts and swimsuits. It was a heck of a 24-hours, but one we look back on fondly.
All good lake vacations call for equal part rest and recreation. Amazingly enough, the kids got a whole lot of both, even while sleeping in the same bed (which was a first for our kiddos). This may also be the only photographic proof I was in Ithaca on this trip.
Elise was her normal wild, adventurous, curious self. She had her boundaries. No kayak. No jumping into the murky water. And no going down for nap without protest. But all-in-all she was very brave and tried lots of new things.
Ryan spent our first full day at the cottage fishing. Cumulative he spent over 6 hours casting and reeling back in. He exhibited a lot of patience, all while spending some quality time with Daddy on the docks. It was especially great the first few days since the main house we were staying on property with was vacant, so we had the run of both places: three docks, two beaches, a covered boat house, a lawn and a fire pit.
One of the best parts of vacation is how Grandpa integrates into our everyday life for the week we are visiting. Because he owns his own business, Max's dad is able to spend a ton of time with us by dropping in for breakfast or lunch and dinner too.
The kids tried everything while exploring on their first day. Even when it rained, they found ways to entertain themselves. And having a covered boathouse really helped us maximize being outside, even when it was pouring. Ryan could even fish from inside of it.
The kids really had a good time playing together trip since Elise is a bit more interactive. And just to prove they're far from perfect, I included my favorite picture on the bottom of this collage. Stay classy Ithaca.
We always experience a lot of wildlife on the lake. We watched baby swallows hatch and fly free during the week, as well as many different growing duck families...and fish.
A look at Ithaca from our dock. Here you see Cornell University on the left as well as part of Ithaca college on the right hill. We could not beat this year's view!
