Summer Vacation: Ithaca days 1 + 2

Sunday, August 16, 2015

The Kerry's once again took Ithaca by storm for the 4th of July, but on our way, we had a blast in Buffalo visiting old friends while making new memories.

Our annual tradition grew this year as we extended our trip by a few days so that we could have a more relaxed pace getting to Ithaca. We visited Max's college friend/housemate/teammate—so yes, there was a LOT of storytelling—while also taking time to decompress with some pool time. Day one we drove the 6.5+ hours to Buffalo, landed at our hotel, swam, ate dinner and then made our way to the Zorrati's to meet their new baby and son. (And saw the HUGE—Fucillo HUGE—stadium that Max played in during college. Ryan was amazed). Our kids played together really well. It was very meaningful to see these former Griffins stand side-by-side with their kiddos.

Though the day was a bit dreary and rainy, our kiddos made themselves right at home...

...In fact, maybe a bit too at home. By the next morning, we had reconfigured the room's furniture and Ryan was amusing us all by throwing a stickie toy to the ceiling while trying to jump on the bed to knock it down. By the end of his adventure, he was leaping from sectional to bed (thus the action photo, middle row, with the "ouch" expression). By noon, these kiddos had swam for an hour, made a significant dent in the continental breakfast and were ready to make the remaining three hour trek to see, as Elise calls him, "my baby Trevor."

Only, Trevor is no longer a baby. He's all boy. And was all too anxious to run wild with his cousins. It is such a joy to see these kids play together. They are family, and though they only see each other a couple times a year, you can see how much they love their time together. The second night we stayed with Max's brother and got to see their new house. It gave the kids tons of time together and all of us a great family meal thanks to Nana who had the pleasure of hugging (most) of her grand babies all at once!
