Day two of our adventure could not have been any more perfect, even with jet lag! It all started with waking up to Easter morning and it only got better from there.
We started the morning hunting for Easter baskets in our condo and then by having breakfast out in the courtyard of the Carlsbad Inn. The resort is situated at the end of the block we once lived on and truly could not have been any more ideal. As soon as we were finished with breakfast the kids blew bubbles (thank you Easter Bunny!)
Elise loved sleeping in the big girl roll away bedA..and in the same room as Ryan. They both did great sharing a room. Better than we had hoped in fact. although they both liked to wake at 4am (which would have been sleeping in for us back in the Easter time zone!)
The highlight of the day was hanging with Jay and his daughter Peyton. Jay and Max were best friends when we lived in California and taught together in Romoland. They'd not seen each other since we came back the first year we were married to spend Thanksgiving together. Peyton was just weeks old and was the first baby Max ever held!
It's a true testament to a friendship when you can spend 8+ hours together and never feel like anytime has passed after an 11 year separation. We all partook in the Easter egg hunt at the Inn, then the boys had lunch at Jay's Gourmet while the kids napped (and Ry lost his tooth.) Then we spent the afternoon together and had ice cream. It was so good to reconnect and to see our kiddos play together. They loved one another instantly.
The kids also got some ocean time in before Jay arrived (boy did we pack it in on Easter!) It was unreal to see them enjoy a beach we once shared as a dating couple. They had a great time splashing in the waves and digging in the sand. We hadn't anticipated it being warm enough to enter the water, but the cold didn't stop Ryan. Neither did being dressed in clothes rather than a bathing suit! We then enjoyed a little Claim Jumper for dinner that night (for anyone that's from Cali, you'll get the joke since there's nothing little about Claim Jumper's portions.) All in all a completely perfect day to set the tone for the world's best vacation!
