Winter break: Florida (packing it all in)

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

I fooled myself into thinking this blog was for our family to stay connected. Truth is, this blog is for me so that I can always look back and remember what angels I have been blessed with.

We jam packed our final day in Fort Myers beach with everything we could. Pool. Beach. More pool. The weather finally made it to the 70s and our plane wasn't to depart until 5:45 pm. Cue the seagulls.

Elise made friends with the ocean on this trip. Last year in California, she was terrified to the point that family beach days were a complete waste. This year she got it. She even waded in and probably would have done some true swimming if the waves hadn't been so cold.

Elise wrote letters and pranced about like a little fawn while Ryan played football with his new buddies and added onto his sand castle. My two shirtless wonders. Ok, three if you count Max.

Sometimes I think we got our California baby when God gave us Elise. The stereotype kinda fits her disposition.

A little pool action before the plane took off. It was finally warm enough for the waterfall to come on (it's temperature driven.) We let the kids swim all afternoon....and skip naps. (Cue the dramatic music.)

Here Elise helps daddy get some workout time in the pool as she was manhandled like a bar bell. She looks happy, so hey!

There are pictures that Elise helped me take. She's got a true interest in my camera (as well as the play ons we have.) She even took my LinkedIn profile picture on her own. It's my favorite picture of myself!

The day ended with drama. I had a panick attack on the way to the airport when reality set in and I mistakenly looked at email. 800+ messages in a week. When we arrived, we were greeted by devil mom. (I thought a camera crew from "What Would You Do?" was going to show up as we witnessed the mom drugging her kids for the plane so they would sleep. Yes, they were terribly behaved. But I wonder why? Ryan was in shock!) Max was loaded down with luggage. Elise melted down since she fell asleep for 20 minutes due to no real nap. I got a migraine. And then our plane was delayed for three hours. We eventually got to GR by midnight, though the kids were great on the plane. What a wake up call to come back to snowy, cold Michigan after a wonderful day in the sun.

Thank you to my parents for allowing us to crash with them for the week. I didn't mention it, but I was sick for most of the week and then my dad caught the bug. Not too many group activities to show photos of (plus we could only go someplace together it Max rode in the trunk.) Regardless, we had a great time hanging at the condo and just relaxing.
