This is the face of a weathered fisherman. He has caught every un-edible type of sea creature you can find in Florida....with a "little" help from Captain Mike.
So we'll start with the most inspiring part of the trip, which was the dolphin sighting. As we headed out, we saw a few playing in our wake. But on the way back we had the most up close and personal experience we could have hoped for as proven above.
As exciting as the trip ended, it did not start that way. We invited my dad and our friend Joe Davio along with us for the charter. (Elise and Nami hung out back home). When we signed up, we didn't realize that it was a backwater fishing tour (read: not the ocean, but the channels leading out to the ocean). We also didn't realize it was a pontoon boat. With lawn chairs. Ryan was a tad disappointed since our lunch beforehand overlooked the marina and some amazing ocean bound fishing boats. And if I'm really honest, I was probably more disappointed. The dolphins made up for it though!
Because there had been so much rain the week before we visited and it was unseasonably cold, we had a hard time catching much of anything. What we did catch was interesting (6 stingrays and some crazy looking things with spikes and teeth), but none of it was long enough to eat. Captain Mike, I mean Ryan, took credit for the most fish, though everyone caught something. Even me. Before I dropped poor Captain Mike's reel into the water. All in all, it was a fun time and probably the best first fortie into deep sea fishing for Ryan. Next time though, we're going big time on something bigger than what we normally ride on at Big Star!
